Statistics Course Evaluation & Adaptation Project for Two-Year College Faculty

As part of the larger Community College Open Learning Initiative (CC-OLI) We are hosting a series of remote e-seminars to support faculty at two year colleges in using and evaluating the existing OLI introductory statistics course as part of our research team.  We will award honoraria for faculty participating in the use and evaluation research.   If you will be teaching statistics in the fall at a two year college and would like to participate:

E-seminars: 3 One-hour sessions online dates and times TBD in accordance with participants' schedules

In the Spring of 2010 we will launch course development teams that will adapt and extend the course for two-year colleges. The development teams will be guided by the experience of faculty attending the workshop who use and evaluate the course in Fall 2009.

The onsite workshop or the remote webinars will prepare faculty to use the course to support their teaching in the fall 2009 and to participate in our community of research. Your experience and feedback will provide valuable input to the Two Year College course development team that will begin work in Spring 2010. Participating in the workshop and using the course this fall does NOT constitute a commitment to participate in the course development team in the Spring 2010.

During the workshop, we will:

  • discuss cognitive principles of effective online education,
  • practice using the OLI online course delivery system and instructor feedback reports,
  • discuss how to participate in our ongoing educational research project,
  • explore a variety of ways to use the online statistics course to effectively support teaching,
  • discuss ways to customize the material for specific target groups,
  • identify additional material or specific lessons to develop.

Workshop Costs:

There is currently no fee for our workshop thanks to funding we receive from several foundations that support the workshop. While travel and lodging expenses are not included, we have some stipends options below.

Travel Stipends and Research Fellowship Honoraria

We have a limited number of Travel Support Stipends and Research Fellowship Honoraria for faculty participating in evaluation studies in Fall 2009.
