Participate in OLIThere are many ways to collaborate with the Open Learning Initiative. In addition to the following opportunities in course authoring and course pilot-testing, we also have opportunities through our current projects. CC-OLI BiologyThe Open Learning Initiative (OLI) of Carnegie Mellon University seeks biology course instructors to participate in the development and use of an interactive, web-based Biology course. This research and development project, called the Community College Open Learning Initiative (CC-OLI), is a rare opportunity for faculty to collaborate with colleagues from other institutions, including national leaders in learning science and instructional design and technology, to transform how community college courses are developed and utilized to achieve measurable learning outcomes and satisfy diverse learning needs. CC-OLI aims to increase course completion rates by 25% over the next three years in redesigned courses that make use of the research-proven achievements of the OLI course design methodology and learning environment, and to improve student success in subsequent higher education courses. Community college faculty currently teaching biology courses are invited to apply for participation in the CC-OLI Biology project. Compensation is available based on experience, project role, and the time commitment of a faculty member. Interested faculty can learn more and apply here. CC-OLI PsychologyHigher education leaders from nine Texas higher education institutions and system offices and the Carnegie Mellon University Open Learning Initiative (OLI) are seeking interested faculty in Psychology to apply to participate in a unique collaborative research and demonstration initiative with the interrelated aims of 1) improving educational outcomes for students and 2) providing faculty with advanced technology-based course materials and real-time student learning data to help inform their teaching strategies. This project is the development of a new web-based learning environment to enhance teaching and learning for a transfer level introductory Psychology course. Compensation is available based on experience, project role, and time commitment. Interested faculty can learn more and apply here. Structured Pilot of Existing CoursesHigher education leaders from nine Texas higher education institutions and system offices and the Carnegie Mellon University Open Learning Initiative (OLI) are seeking interested faculty to apply to participate in a unique collaborative research and demonstration initiative with the interrelated aims of 1) improving educational outcomes for students and 2) providing faculty with advanced technology-based course materials and real-time student learning data to help inform their teaching strategies. This project is a structured pilot of existing OLI course materials in Biology, Economics, Engineering Statics, French, Introductory Programming with Media, Logic and Proofs, and Statistics. The OLI system provides targeted feedback and support to students and instructors, and rich data to help evaluate and improve course materials. Interested faculty can learn more and apply here. |
