The Learning Dashboard

Principal Investigators: Marsha Lovett and Ken Koedinger

The Learning Dashboard (LD) (formerly Digital Dashboard for Learning) project, funded by the Spencer Foundation, aims to develop the most useful feedback on student learning outcomes for instructors of introductory college courses. When instructors know exactly where students are struggling, they can more readily use precious class time to focus on those issues.

In the LD project we work with faculty at Carnegie Mellon and other institutions teaching hybrid OLI courses to determine how best to provide such feedback. The aim is to create a robust and informative feedback format that supports faculty in responding to student learning needs.  The project has 3 aims:

Aim 1. Develop a model that accurately predicts students' learning outcomes.
Aim 2. Empirically optimize instructional feedback to guide subsequent learning.
Aim 3. Create a new tool for students and instructors: the Learning Dashboard.
